On to the Dyno
#1
OK it was yesterday. Put her Mustang on the dyno. 15hp extra just for getting the timing optimised. Sign0175

Now for registration examination - 5 July - already booked!! Thumbup

Just added this. The black and red box to the left is one of the water pumps (load) that are bolted to the wheel hub by an adapter. The red box to the right is the fan placed in front to give air flow. The hoses coming down are water pipes and a skinny cable for measurements back to the computer. The car ends up supported on the pumps so it can't go anywhere if it does go 'wrong'. Read out screen is behind the jack handle on the left.

It is a 2 or 4 wheel set-up owned by my daughter's ex.

I'll take 15 HP any day for dialing in the timing.

Way to go.

I would imagine that the express purpose of dyno time is to optimize performance. Secondarily to see what the numbers are.

By the way - what were the numbers? Biggrin

Maxed out at 185kW at the wheels. Running 98 Octane - pump fuel out here. Sorry should have posted the numbers first time around.

It has been off the road for 17yrs so I expect the number s to improve along with the general running as it gets to be used.

What's that is Christian units? Eusa_dance Just kidding! Looks like that translates to about 248hp at the tire (roughly 275-280hp @ the crank). Sound about right?

Yep, about that. The car is tatally standard and has been off the road for almost 20yrs. I think the numbers will go up slightly and it will get smoother once it gets a good few runs behind it.

Nice shot of the car M1FF! Although I cannot quite visualize how the pumps support the car, I am glad to hear precautionary steps have been taken!

Yeah you definetly don't want one to come loose. We had a Semi Tractor come off the rollers, of an in floor dyno at full tilt. The operator was thankfully in the cab when it came loose and it took roughly 850 feet to get it shut down and fully stopped. He said that was the scariest ride of his life! I just wanted to know the color of his shorts? He said brown just like everybody else's. It left the coolest looking set of marks you've ever seen with all 8 rears turning about 90mph, when it took off. JTS 71 Mach1

The pump boxes are covers over a steel frame. The silver area on the box is where the hub adapter attaches, with the other end on the wheel studs.

The adapter has spline drive onto the pump its self. There is also a large bearing. Would you all like other pictures? No prob at all if you do.
