Found this website, trying to figure out some stuff with my 1969 Mach 1,  it has 106,500 org miles, it was painted in the 80s, but the same color.
it is one of my favorite mustangs when i was growing up, so i finally found one for a great deal, well maybe a steal. the guy just got divorced and needed money.
anyway, its not a big block, couldnt have afforded that. its got a stock 351w 4bbl in it and still chirps second, its an automatic, as far as i know it never had any work done to it.
since i got back in 97 i have changed the wheels, fixed the door lock, fixed the choke, changed the radio, replaced the speakers, upgraded the front brakes to power and disk.
chrome valve covers, new headlight harness, upgraded headlights to halogen, upgraded to relays for the headlights and now the headlight switch to stop the flickering lights in the dash.
next on the list is the flowmaster exhaust kit i bought awhile ago. blah blah blah i have blabbed long enough.
there is some great info on this site, thanks for sharing.

When selecting a rear axle gear you need to also consider the trans.  Is it an auto or manual trans.  If its an auto trans, what torque convertor does it have.  If it's a manual trans and an old school 4 speed, is it a close ratio or a wide ratio.  Also tire size.  But assuming the tire size is close to or still stock:

Typically, if it has a C6 auto trans with a stock torque convertor, a 3.50:1 rear axle gear ratio is a popular choice for a street car.  You have to remember, on these older automatic transmissions with non-lockup type of torque convertors there is always some slippage in the torque convertor which means the motor and trans are never locked together in a 1:1 ratio.  So, the 3.50:1 rear axle gear will seem lower than it would in a manual trans car.

For a 4sp manual trans car, if it's a wide ratio trans then you can still get away with a 3.50:1 ratio since 1st gear in a wide ratio trans is fairly low.  A 3.70:1 ratio rear axle gear is also a viable choice.

For a 4sp close ratio trans car, now you will need something like a 3.89:1 ratio because 1st gear is very high in a close ratio transmission.  Like Mustangmike, I also use a 3.89:1 rear axle ratio with a close ratio top loader 4sp.  Driving around town is fun, but highway driving is not feasible.

So, if you have the first scenario listed above, I'd lean toward the 3.50:1 ratio.  My older brother had a setup like that back in the 1980's in a 69 Mach 1.  It was still fun around town and you can still do a little highway driving.

yeah, pretty sure it is 3.50:1 ratio its all factory stock minus the few things i changed. it is a Automatic transmission also.
my old 78 cobra 2 i had when i was 16 we put a shift kit in it and did some minor engine work and it would hit 2nd pretty hard and spin the tires.
got that one when i was 15 and parted ways after buying the 69 Mach 1, still miss that 78 had a lot of fun in that car.

If it's all factory stock it probably has a 3.00:1 rear axle ratio from the factory.  That was the most common with a 351W 4 barrel and auto trans.  If that's the case, the 3.50:1 gear ratio will make it feel like a different car.  Double check the rear axle gear ratio.  With an open differential (non-posi of any type), with the rear axle supported on jack stands and the trans in neutral, hold one rear wheel so it cannot rotate, rotate the drive shaft and count how many revolutions the drive makes to complete two revolutions of the free rotating wheel.  I.E., for an open differential with a 3.00:1 gear ratio the driveshaft will rotate three revolutions for the free rotating wheel to revolve twice.

Thank you for accepting my registration. I'm 67 years young and been a Ford fan all my life. Started working on cars when I was 15, had my own repair business from 1972-1981 when I saw the writing on the wall figuring I would not be able to compete against Dealerships and bring in the kind of income I desired. While I changed career paths that resulted in the desired outcome I still continued to work on my mobile equipment, not trusting my vehicles to others. During the '60s through '81 I owned Fairlanes, 5 in total with my two best being a '69 Sportsroof I obtained from my grandmother's estate and my quickest being a '71 Cobra with a 429CJ-4v 4-spd.

Ever since attending a Washington DC Car Show where I saw the first bright red, pre-release '1969 Mach 1 I have had the desire to own a Mach 1 and later, once they hit the market, not just any Mach 1 but a 1969 Mach 1 428 SCJ. Marriages and children put that to bed for a long time and my first Mustang I bought on 6/1/2013 and was a School Bus Yellow Boss 302. I spent the next few years upgrading it and replacing crap parts put on the car by FoMoCo. The engine, clutch and transmission are still stock, but it has a MGW Shifter and single piece carbon fiber driveshaft and other Ford Racing components found standard on the LS model, as well as aftermarket suspension components to improve handling at HPDE events. I've retained and inventoried all original parts in numbered boxes and could return the car to original anytime I should desire.

Finally, after all these years I recently purchased a fully restored, excellent condition '69 Mach 1 Code R, 1 of 5 in this configuration. I have an appointment with the MD Motor Vehicle Administration this Wednesday to initiate an application for new title, etc. After that need to get it state inspected and on the road. Both Mustangs are now insured through Hagerty. Looking forward to continued enjoyment of the Boss and added enjoyment of driving the Mach 1. Old cars never die, they just get better with age!

Hello thanks for letting me join.  I have a 1969 Mach 1 I've owned for 5 years, its a S code with a C6 trans and when I purchased it it had been through a full rotisserie I'm the fourth owner.  This great car is all numbers original matching drive train.  I've taken "Badass" to many shows and she is always a first place winner.  Two years ago took "Badass" to it's first MCA show in Minneapolis and took first in my class. This is my second Mach 1 I've owned, had another in 1974 with the same setup turned into a race car. Took the original 390 out and dropped in a 406, have pics just don't know yet how to post them here.  Will enjoy talking to everyone.

Cool Wow 2 new members, both with 69 Mach1's. Hello and Welcome! there are a lot of guy's on here with 69's as well, as all years with the exception of the "78" they just don't have much of a following. But hey you guy's have some beautiful Mach1's. Sounds like the Ford Blue runs in your veins like it does for most of us. Lots of good people on the site, and tons of info. Look around and enjoy, and remember. The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. So ask away, as with the collective knowledge of everyone here, somebody knows the answer. Again Welcome to the Club!

        Well…2 weeks ago I picked up #6095.
I had gone back and forth as I had a 2019 PP1 300a car.  Amazing car.  Dealer gave me more on trade then I originally paid for it. No ADM either.

Numbers worked out.

So now I have my 2003 TR Mach in the garage right alongside my Fighter Jet Grey 2021.

The Tremec alone is worth the price of admission…

Not a lot of seat time yet but…

Looking forward to this site and all the good things to come…

SSig_welcome4   Wow is Fighter jet Gray the only color these things come in?  LOL! I believe you are # 8 of New Mach1 owners. and I'll bet 6 out of 8 are Fighter Jet Grey. So far that seems to be the most popular color for the New Mach1's, time will tell. I'm curious as to what they feel like? I mean are they a Super Refined Gt Car, or more of a Bruised knuckle boxer, in a nice suit? Most everyone have said like you, they haven't had much seat time in them. I'm waiting for someone to take one of these out, and drove it like they stole it! Gears Then report on the results, and what it took to wipe the stupid grin off your face afterwards!  Cool

Good luck with it and Welcome to the Club.

PS If somebody needs a Test Pilot I'm Game!!!
