Vibration at drive line tunnel 69 mach
#1
I have been experiencing a vibration at 60+ mph around the transmisson , I thought it was a U-joint but to nite I checked the U-joints and they were ok, but I did find the front yoke going into transmisson was sloopy . I suspect the yoke is in need of replacement /
I am thinking thats the issue not the tranny output shaft.
Can anyone help conmfirm ?

There is also a bushing in the tailhousing that also centers the yoke. Also might check the pinion angle on the rear axle.

Well nothing else hasd changed , except the yoke is sloopy on the tail shaft . I removed the tranny when I did my engine rebuild and mayber I didn't do something I was supposssed to when I reinstalled it. ? Because it didn't vibrate before I did the tranny removal.

Don are you here ? need some expert Ford advice or anyone who has more knowledge than I .

Were the motor mounts or the trans mount replaced?Cause these can affect drive line angles too. Also rear springs they can also change you maybe right that the yoke is worn Id also look at the bushing in the trans.Gears

I found this also maybe it will help.

Yes both were replaced.

i put in what was called for . Never gave any thought that but what i am thinking now is the bush you have mentioned. How would that have happened when it was never driven untill just this last month ? Is there a possibilty the yoke is not on the output shaft far enough ? as sloopy as it is , I wonder if thats ther issue .

If the vibration wasnt there before then I would double check to see if you got the right mounts when you changed them.

Again everything else seesm to be ok, but how do I account for the sloopy fit of the drive shaft ? I have been racking my brain ( not much there ) but I can not figure out what has happened. It has been so long that it say with out being driven , i wonder if it was like that before and I didn't notice ?

I had the same type of trouble a while ago and it was a bad tranny mount. [/i]

You didn't mention how you checked the U joints, if you simply checked for slop (wiggled them) you could have worn or pitted needles or cups. Which wouldn't show until you completely remove the driveshaft and rotate the U joints in all directions looking for tightness, popping, dry or rusty pucks. All of these can cause the vibration. Look at the yoke itself. Is it smooth or does it have grooves worn in it? Also look for dirt/rust inside the splines of the yoke. If the shaft was hard to install in the trans. It could be binding and causing the vibration. Look to see, if you can see any weight welded to the shaft or a place where there was a weight that has slung off. Last but not least check for straightness believe it or not they are very easy to bend, something fell on it??? and it doesn't take much to get a vibration. JTS 71 Mach1

Hi. What engine and transmission is in your car? I have te same problem but it varies with temperature which leads me to the mount. Mine is oily but intact. Please advise. Thanks..
