Filler and Primer
#1
Okay guys, I stripped some of my paint off of my passenger quarter.
I found alot of filler(bondo) with alot of dents and dings. As i am not going to be able to pound all of them out straight and i am down to bare metal i have a question.

Is it best to do the filler before primer or can i primer then do the filling?
And is epoxy or urethane primer best for filling after primeing if that can be done?
If i can prime before filling it will be 2 weeks before i can do the filling due to my job after primeing. Will that affect anything?

Thanks

Matt

I'm no expert but I think the body putty should be applied on bare metal, but I'm sure some experts will chime in with the answer.

Use self etching primer over bare metal, Your body filler can be applied after, and you don't need to worry about going back to bare metal. The filler will adhear to the self etching primer after scuffing well,[/color] with, say 80 grit or so.

Self etching primer first then body filler is what my auto paint supply tells me. Self etching primer will also protect the panel while you are away. Another benefit is that with a coat of self etching primer as the base you will be able to see low and high spots as you sand for smoothness.

Read some one this site: http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/ I have heard great things about these products but I am not quite at the point to have tried them personally.

We would love to keep up with you on your progress and learn from you as you work on your car. Post some pictures for us!
