hdshadpar - Oztrailer - 02-06-2019

I have started this for hdshadpar as he posted in the middle of another users thread.

Well I hope this is the correct procedure and forum but I have  been a new member for a bit just didn't have time to post, but things have settled down now and plan to enjoy this site so here goes!  Had a 69 428 Mach 1 back in 72, beautiful car!  Should have kept but when you were 19 back then things were different... Anyway, cruising the web one night I was attracted to this 1971 Dark Metallic Green Mach 1 for what ever reason, not even my favourite colour.  As the days pass, well actually a month I send him a message to see if he is interested in trades, he asked me what I have and I tell him a 57 TBird E clone.  Well, he comes back and asked me to send pics and I do, he then comes back few days later and indicates he is interested, so I ask for more pics of the Stang.   I get a pile of pics plus a Marti report.  So, after careful inspection of the pics I indicate that I'm interested in doing some kind of deal.  We set a date for him to look at the TBird.  So before he comes out I get up in the middle of the night and look at the Marti report.  Now this is one month after talking to him and not committed to any deal, at the bottom of the Marti report I notice the built date which states "Built one day ahead of schedule Oct. 30th, 1970, which was my past wife's birthday...  A true matching numbers car!  Could never figure out why I watched this car for so long and now I know why.  So comes and views the TBird and then I go with a auto body/mechanic specialist to check out the Stang.  It has just over 72,000 miles, no rust, original paint, 4 speed, AC, green woven interior, anyway it was a done deal!  And those that read this the whole story it even gets weirder...  but thats another story and true one for another time.  I now have a 1971 Mach 1 in my garage and love it!!  Plan to change/upgrade a few things after reading up on the Cleveland engine, new 7 quart oil pan because they love oil, new oil pump, change valve seals account sitting for 15 years, go to Pertronix ignition and what ever else that can be a good addition, but trying to leave it the way it was.   However lots of stuff that is confusing when you read all the forums i.e. about the different codes (M,H and Q) and when they actually started production of each, 2 bolt, 4 bolt, however will get into the threads to figure out.  I will now try to add a pic... well it won't take so I must read further unless it is there and I can't see.  Again love the forum and looking forward to many more years!!  If I have posted in the wrong area sorry, just went to New Member and seen a nice 69 Mustang and followed.

Wow absolutely beautiful, That's almost unbelievable condition for an original everything, 71 Mach1. Welcome to the Club. Please share "The Rest of the Story" as Paul Harvey would say. I'm also curious about the  Tbird Clone???  Was the E an Engine code or something? Welcome and congratulations on scoring such a Gorgeous 71 Mach1.

RE: hdshadpar - hdshadpar - 05-24-2019

Thank you Oztrailer for correcting this.  Sorry for the late reply everyone but my mother had me busy with a Cancer issue.  As for the rest of the weird story is that after my wife passed I and my 3 girls went and got tattoos of a Dragon fly for it was her favourite creature.  Now after the mustang arrived at my garage (Jan 7 th), which is after the owner had power washed it top to bottom for inspection, we took it for a good drive on a nice January afternoon in southern Alberta and then it was trailered to my garage unloaded and then I moved it around and cleaned and polished it again and it sat for another couple of days.  On my youngest daughters birthday I always tell her story of her mom (Jan 11), so I told the story of the Mustang being built on her birthday, it was a tear jerker for her.  So I go out to the garage the next morning and there lying on the cement floor in front of the Mustang, not underneath but in front was a full grown Dragon fly not mutilated or damaged (wtf).  I called my new wife out (7 years) to the garage and showed her this and we had another tear jerker, for this wasn't the first time something like this happed to us as when we bought our first house together the deal was signed on the day my wife passed away, when my wife became a Canadian citizen her ceremonie was on the day my wife passed away.  A true matching numbers car.  The dragon fly is in a ceiled box and goes where ever we go.

So, I've done lots of work to bring her back to a quality driver for it sat for 15 years in a heated shop account the guys wife didn't like it but with a couple issues to finish, 1 amber fog light socket is BO, the AC went on me but have another one coming and the stereo doesn't work but will fix that this winter.  I sound proofed it from the rear seat back to the tailed of the trunk (what a difference) and will do the front this winter a well.  It has had some rear quarter work but the rest is original paint, original carpet, seats and power train.  The dash, door panels, regular steering column (now tilt), wheels were changed and I have all the original stuff.  Put new electronic ignition in it, changed the hoses, shocks, oil pump, valve seals (guides were ok), cleaned the carb, new fuel pump and new light switch and relay.

That's it!  looking forward to this site for things always break or wear down.
