The Fall of 1968 brings the newly re-designed 1969 Mustang. I'm 16+ years old and aching for a car. I'm not sure where I first saw a "69 Mustang. TV commercial? On the street? In a showroom? I don't know. Dad worked at the Ford Parts Depot that was in Cincinnati back then. Needless to say I was prejudiced from a early age. We bought a new 1974 Sportsroof or whatever they called it then to replace my wife's '69 Beetle. Our needs changed and that one was sold after a year or so. House, kids, college and a long string of Lincoln/Ford/Mercury products until She said "I'm tired of driving Grandma cars". She bought a 1998 Mustang. Just a 6cylinder but a sporty looking car. My wife's new Mustang was fine except "not enough pickup" for her expressway commute to work. We gave it to our high school age daughter and my wife called the local Ford dealer. She asked if they had a GT on the lot. No, but 2 on the truck due any day. Both white. One a convertible 5 speed. She bought it, a 2000, without even test driving it. Great car. After 8 years and 120k miles an SUV was in order. In 2001 my suppressed desire for a Mustang, for me, surfaced. Through a connection I found a 1969 R code Mach 1 in Jacksonville, FL. It was a resto project that had been abandoned. Rusted, Bondo'ed, partially the original Candy Apple Red although that was also sanded. Partially disassembled but it started and ran. Fall of 2001 it was delivered to my home near Cincinnati where it sat, untouched, for 11 years while the kids went to college, the kitchen was remodeled and then the bathrooms were remodeled. 11 years passed until the Mach left for it's transformation. I don't have the tools or abilities to restore it. With 2 1/2 years of work performed on it to date I think in a couple of more weeks will see the Mach1 returned to my garage. I think that it looks spectacular. I drove it last week to gas it up. First time that I ever drove it. I also drove it last week to get the tires and wheels installed. Very exciting. I am from the Cincinnati area (Goshen) and will have to catch up with you on one of my next visits.
It is great that you were able to hang on for so long and finally enjoy the fruit of your patience.

Beautiful car! Not too many around in that color. Are those the 15" version of the Styles Steel Wheels? I like those wheels better than the Magnum 500's. They seem to have a better look on a Mach 1. Will a trim ring fit on them to look more original? Mine is still running with its original 14" Styles Steel Wheels. If I ever need another set of tires I want to get the 15" Styled Steel Wheels.
Other than mine, I haven't seen another Mach 1 on the roads in years here in California. What happened? Why do you guys have all the R codes?

1969 Mach 1, Thanks for your kind words. It did turn into a swan from it's ugly duckling beginnings. Yes, those are the 15" styled steel wheels. Everyone runs the Magnums or Tork Thrust it seems like. I wanted a little different wheel yet the stock look. The 15" wheel gave me much more to choose from in tires. There is a 15" trim ring but I really like this look. The trim rings seem to clutter up the wheel.
I have a R code because I couldn't afford a Boss 429!!! Dave R.

Welcome to the site Dave! You "think" your car looks spectacular but I "know" it does!! From what I can see in the picture the shop did an excellent job with the restoration work and the body panel alignments look spot on, very well done. Please post some more pictures of your car...Once again welcome and beautiful car!

Thanks Mustangmike. This pic was taken in front of my guy's garage. He worked at a local body shop where he did most of the restoration jobs that the shop took in. Their arrangement was that Terry would take the car to his home garage and do most of the work there. That keeps from tying up a stall at the body shop. Helps lower the cost to the customer. Terry retired at the same time this project started. He still had and has a friendly relationship with that shop. The car was painted there. Terry's oversized 3 car garage is well equipped but no spray booth. Dave R. Please disregard my finger at the top of this pic. [attachment=10994]

Welcome Dave, it sure sucks when life gets in the way of our passion for are beloved cars, but if we had slighted the family to build our cars, we probably couldn't have lived with ourselves.
