Clocks that actually work - mrmach1 - 12-29-2014

Does anybody have a console clock that actually works and keeps time. Mine stopped probably sometime around 1980 or earlier I've purchased two more at swap meets that supposedly worked but nope.

Two things I learnt the hard way:
1) NEVER EVER turn the hands without having the clock correctly connected to 12v (Dunno why BUT it cost me a perfectly good clock).
2) Only an accredited clockmaker or instrument tech can repair clocks! Guys in the Mall - don't waste your time and money. You get what you pay for.

I've owned my 73 since 1974 and the clock never kept accurate time. Quit working back in the 80's so I set the hands at 12 o'clock; at least it shows the correct time twice a day Biggrin

There are guys who fit quartz works to existing cases as well.

A good friend who sold clocks (and jewlery) for a living told me that display clocks should be set to 10 mins to 2 o'clock. It is suposed to look like a smile or happy wave. He should know, he made more $ than me!!
As a sort of related matter I am having the quartz works from a BMW clock professionally fitted to the case of my Daimler. It won't have the same hand movement as the original but it will function with the correct time.

Seems to me like it would look like it's hands are up in surrender. Biggrin
