leather or not... - keith1562 - 09-21-2013

I've seen many cars of the 65-73 vintage that claim to have leather seats. It seems most common on cars that are being described & for sale. I know there are a few after-market leather seat covers made for certain cars, & certainly any upholstery shop can stitch up a set. Other than Cougar XR-7s, does anyone know of other cars that came factory with leather, not vinyl. Just curious,
Keith
p.s. I welcome any & all feedback, positive, negative, or just plain mean spirited.

Thsts a pretty vague question: "Did cars come with lesther seats in the sixties?"
Of course, most any luxury car could be optioned with lesther seats from the fifties on up. No classic Mustsng ever came with leather sests as a RPO, but as you said some Cougar XR-7s had the option.
You are correct though: many people advertise thier cars as having original leather seats when they never came that way. Some even just outright lie and claim thier vinyl interior is leather.

Many just do not know the difference and refuse to be educated.

How many times have you seen and car with a six advertise as a V-6 just because they have no idea what a I-6 is! I also particularly disdain dealerships who advertise most 4X4 trucks as standard shift because they have no idea that it does not refer to the transfer case but the transmission.

Maybe the real question is....pleather or not? Quite frankly, I have not seen a leather interior on an early Mustang here in the east coast.

ONLY LEATHER INTERIOR I HAVE SEEN WAS A 65 ORDERED FOR EITHER EDSEL OR HENRY II. IT ALSO HAD REAL TEAK WOOD TRIM AND A K CODE 289 WITH A FOUR SPEED. IT WAS FEATURED IN MUSTANG MONTHLY IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. I AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSE THAT SINCE ITS NOT CLOTH THEN IT MUST BE LEATHER Undecided
